I made some new friends

It's summer time, and that means more animals are finding their way into my house... because of me, of course.

I've got some new friends residing in my room (in cages) that I'd like to introduce you to.

First up is the cute one... the baby turtle. He's a painted turtle, caught in the pond in my backyard. I was squealing quite incoherantly for a few minutes upon his capture. He eats little goldfish and insects caught in the pond, as well as tiny crickets. Trying to get him to go after turtle pellets.Next is the house centipede, caught him in my dad's office! And the stunningly beautiful fishing spider. She's simply fantastic... and already munching up a big cricket. I havent measured her legspan but I think it's about two inches.I've got more photos of them on Flickr.

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE my camera and macro lens? Because I do. A lot.

Oh! The turtle is so cute, and that spider is really pretty! :) How big is the centipede? That's a great close-up shot.

Awwww! Can you snorgle a baby turtle? I'll have to leave the buggies all to you though ;)

That baby turtle is adorable! And the house centipede has such a cute face. I have to admit, I am normally terrified of house centipedes. They are the only insect that make me shiver. I think it's all those long legs going at once. *shudder*
Great photos! Glad to hear you got a macro lens - can't wait to see what else you shoot.

The turtle is really cute! So tiny!

The other two, I don't find as cute...

I can tell you, though, that since having 'met' you, that when my kids discover bugs in the house, I try to escort them outside, rather than flushing them.....

That's a wicked cool picture of a 'pede!

(The others are neat, too, but he's got such a 'hey, baby' look!)

Awww, thanks for sharing your pic of the centipede. Like Maritza said, they're one bug that usually scares me to death with their fast little crazy legs. But seeing his cute face has melted my cold heart.

Hi there, I love all of God's creatures and yes the centipede's cute face would melt a cold heart. It is a shame the way we have been taught in this society to see different creatures in a negative way. It is a form of stereotyping and discrimination. When I was a kid, I use to think that centipedes and spiders were bad and mosquitos etc... It was only because the way I was taught to think about them. It wasn't until I got older that I started to see the real beauty and innocence in them. I am so happy that more people are seeing the beauty in these creatures. People need to stop labelling them in negative ways.
Thanks for sharing your photos.
